TAARP - The Corridors of Time -
Introduction
The symbol of the uroborous in which a circle is formed by a serpent biting its tail has appeared repeatedly throughout the history of mankind. It represents the union of the conscious ego with the primitive, ancient contents of the root structure of the mind. The objective of all religious rituals is to affect this integration process to one degree or another.
The Jungian term "individuation" is closely related to the uroboric process. "Numinous" is a term Carl Jung used to indicate the experiential encounter of the conscious ego with archetypal contents of the collective unconscious. A mature status for the individuation process can only occur through numinous experiences which lead to the integration of the ego with the collective unconscious.
The Occult sciences are a set of disciplines which can lead to the most thorough execution of the uroboric process that is humanly possible. Properly conducted rituals of the Occult Sciences climax with very powerful and direct encounters between the ego and ancient forms of the Deity which for millennia have been worshipped by our forefathers. The Occult Sciences require the individual to become not only intellectually aware of the content of the collective unconscious, but also to join in close, familial relationships with the ancient archetypal forces populating the underlying foundation of the human mind.
A correct interpretation of the term "Occult" implies nothing specifically about evil. "Occult" means hidden, and the Occult Sciences are involved with the more hidden and mysterious aspects of nature. Since evil is a very prominent aspect of nature, some investigation of it is a necessary element of any proper foray into the Occult. For example, one of the many attributes of the Egyptian God Set is his personification of the destruction and decay of vegetation following the period of the harvest. The Greek God Typhon is a personification of the destructive force of storms.
To attain to a high degree of Occult development requires proficiency in the following five areas:
Analytical thinking implies the capacity to function mentally like a scientist, to analyze and synthesize ideas, and to collect, memorize and correlate facts. General knowledge implies a familiarity with many of the facts of nature in general, and many of the specific facts concerning the Occult Sciences in particular. Artistic creativity implies the capacity for creative manifestation of ideas and feelings. Drawing, painting, dancing, writing, and singing are a few examples. Meditation implies the capacity to focus the mind narrowly upon a single element (an idea, a color, a symbol, etc.) for an extended period of time. Ritual Magick implies the potential to utilize the other four areas for a specific objective such as the evocation of a God (Osiris, Zeus, Priapus, etc.) or Goddess (Artemis, Aphrodite, Athena, Isis, etc.). Parapsychology is included here because the proper execution of any Occult ritual is always accompanied by parapsychological phenomena.* By monitoring the prevelance or lack thereof of parapsychological events, the operator of an Occult ritual can measure the progression of the effort.
These five areas will appear repeatedly throughout the proposal because it is absolutely necessary that all of them be included in any serious effort involving the Occult Sciences.
A proper interplay with the Occult Sciences requires the individual to become completely immersed in the subject for an extended period of time. The psychological and physiological functions which must be activated in order to accomplish the stringent specifications of Occult ritual endeavors necessitate a withdrawal from the normal interplay of everyday life. The individual must assume the role of the hermit to a significant degree.
A serious Occult program involves a most precise study of history, depth psychology, comparative religion, and comparative mythology. Not only is the student required to read and think about Babylon, Nineveh, Thebes, Rome, Canaan, etc., and the various pantheon worshipped therein, he is also required to reach back into the depths of his own mind where the artifacts of ancient civilizations lie buried and drag them up for personal inquiry and inspection.
The current state-of-the-art in parapsychology as it is known to the classical psychic investigator is very primitive. The poor parapsychological results which have characterized psychic research for years are very simply due to the fact that the approach has been far off the mark. Psychic phenomena occur predominately in the space which is most aptly termed "the land of Jungian synchronicity". The last place that this is likely to manifest is in a university laboratory, while the most likely place it is liable to manifest is under a full moon in an isolated wooded area with all participants mumbling something of the order of:
"Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire burn and chauldron bubble."**
The concept of synchronicity as developed by Carl Jung is the key to parapsychological phenomena, and the Occult Sciences are the key to synchronicity. Synchronistic events always accompany successful Occult rituals.
Within the last forty years nothing has been published which to any significant degree builds upon the Occult work of Carl Jung and Aleister Crowley. It is time for a person of science to bring the Occult concepts of these two men to public attention. There is a vibrate need for a scholarly update on the Occult Sciences by a qualified individual who can construct a vivid account of the subject which will be appealing to a wide audience including the scientific community.
There are many twentieth century scientists, and there are numerous investigators into the Occult. There are, however, very few individuals armed with modern scientific constructs who are inclined to pursue an in-depth experiential investigation of such Occult matters as the invocation and evocation of powerful archetypal entities of the likes of Astarte, Osiris, Thoth, and Asmodeus. In order to report on the inner workings of the mind, practical knowledge of its inhabitants is required. Therefore, the reporter who is to produce the documentation required to bring the Occult Sciences into the modern world must find his Virgil and take the journey into the underworld.
I began this journey some time ago, and I am now searching for funding which would permit me to spend an extended period of time concentrating all of my energies on the Occult Sciences. Three and one half years would be a reasonable period, but I would consider a shorter term. Over the last fifteen years I have made a good deal of progress from both theoretical and practical aspects in my Occult development. A concentrated Occult research program at this time would permit me to reach the Occult maturity required to write a thorough and comprehensive report on the Occult Sciences.
*The terms "parapsychological", "psychic", and "synchronistic" will be used throughout this proposal to indicate the same basic idea. What this implies is that phenomena which are normally classified as parapsychological (i.e., telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, etc.) are synchronistic in nature and not causal. Conversely, it also implies that synchronisity is a parapsychological phenomenon in that it is associated with psychological states that are far from normal.
