Dear Bill,
- Thanks for being willing to interface again for me with H. B. Since H. B. will not communicate directly with me, it will be necessary for you to clearly understand what we need. Therefore, if you would take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with the issue at hand so that you can effectively communicate exactly what we need to know to H. B., I would be very grateful.
- Here is the question. Who specified the planets in the astrological complexes for Burton, Petrarch, and Shelley that are given in the Editorial Notes of "The General Principles of Astrology"?
- I have attached the following exhibits to help us answer this question.
- Pages 50 and 51 from the main text of "GPA"
- Pages 560, 571, and 573 from the Editorial Notes of "GPA"
- Material from the Crowley TS that resides at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC, Wilson Library, Call No. 11049 Z, "The Aleister Crowley Manuscript Inventory"
- An e-mail from you to me with advice from H. B. to get Exhibit C
- Start with Exhibit A. Crowley tells us that Burton, Petrarch, and Shelley each have two astrological complexes. Also, he tells us how many planets are in each complex, and something about how closely together the planets in each complex are aspected, but he says nothing about which planets make up the complexes.
- Now go to Exhibit C. Again we see that the numbers of planets in the complexes are given, but there is no information about which planets belong to which complex.
- Now look at Exhibit B. We see that the specific planets are given for the complexes in Burton's, Petrarch's, and Shelley's natal horoscopes. Furthermore, for each of these cases H.B. says "the TS had".
- Now look at Exhibit D. H.B. seems to me to be saying that the TS from the University of North Carolina is where he got these planetary specifications from, but as demonstrated in paragraph 5 above this could not be true.
- Do we have the wrong TS? Both Rachel and Ann at the Wilson Library ( 919-962-1345 ) tell us that Call No. 11049 Z are the only
Crowley TS's the library has.
- Thanks again for your help. Is there anything I can do for you? Please give my thanks to H.B.
